Do not impose my torment through your cruelty,
Do not impose your harshness as my torment,
And be gentle in love with the lamented one.
And be gentle in love with the suitor,

And whenever you unsheathe the swords of estrangement,
Do not kill the love-worn without necessity.
Do not kill the distressed without cause,

They said, “He gathered the fruit of union.” I answered them:

Tell the reproachers to turn from their ignorance,
Tell the flirts to stop their ignorance,
For life is not empty without a beloved.
For life is not devoid of a lover,

Can withstand the dragged and the erected,

Fair-skinned, she has shamed, through the governing force of her stature,
White, who has been exposed by her perfect figure,
A tawny lance and a supple bough.
