May God cherish the times that passed with a companion
who exchanges his store of eloquence with mine.
اذاif لمnot تدرcirculate كأسa cup المدامةof wine بينناamong us
اذا لم تدر كأس المدامة بيننا
اديرتwere passed around كؤوسcups بينbetween لفظيmy words ولفظهand his words
اديرت كؤوس بين لفظي ولفظه
If no cup of wine circulated among us,
cups were passed between my words and his.
