وماand by how صنعتshe made بأحشائيwithin my entrails خباهاher tent
Indeed, by my heart's torment in loving her,
My heart is torn with love and longing for her,
And by her pitching her tent within my entrails,
And consumed by the mystery of her being.

My heart, if she roasted it one day through abandonment,
If my heart survived a day without seeing her,
Upon the fire of passion, would not hate her.
It would be fuel on the flames of passion.

Ask her: has my heart ceased pining for her?
Could my heart find peace away from her?
My heart—has it ceased pining for her? Ask her.
Never! It knows no solace but in her presence.

So may he never live who, even once in love,
No lover lives long in happiness
Spoke of forgetting her or intended it.
Without being soothed by her gentleness.

By the verse of her beauty I was enraptured when
Her beauty astounds all who see her,
The reproacher strayed through it, though he had recited it.
The wise and foolish alike adore her.

She proudly charges with her beauty mark and attacks,
She walks proudly, boldly revealing
And has come to unsheathe her refusal against me.
Her graces that kings might envy and desire.

Slender of figure, when she sways,
Her slender shape sways gracefully
Oh, the branches' shame, and their bashfulness!
As the branches sway in the breeze shyly.

She gazed at me with sidelong glances; I said, 'Are these
Her glances pierce my soul like swords,
Unsheathed swords, or her two eyes?'
Or surely wound it with their flashes.

She fulfilled my promise—how delectable and sweet!
She smiled and promised and fulfilled
And I kissed her cheek and her mouth.
With a kiss that set my heart ablaze.

By her lips the love-tormented one was truly enthralled,
Her radiance dazzles the mind’s eye,
Even had he not sipped the dusky hue of her lips.
Her sweet waters revive the soul of the thirsty.

The reproacher tells me, 'You are bewitched, so abandon
The wise say leave her, cease your madness!
Your reproaches in love, and love someone other than her.'
Yet how can I love any but her?

So I said to him, with my patience spent:
I say to them, I am patient,
'May God, my Lord, prolong her life!'
May my Lord prolong her life!
