ياO شَاعِرًاpoet يتسَامىaspires to greatness
يا شَاعِرًا يتسَامى
وجَدهُand his grandfather خلدُونُKhaldun
وجَدهُ خلدُونُ
O poet who aspires to greatness,
O poet who aspires high
and whose grandfather is Khaldun,
Found eternity through you
لمdid not يَكفِْsuffice بأنكَin your being خلvinegar
لم يَكفِْ بأنكَ خل
حتىeven بأنكَin your being دونُbase; lowly
حتى بأنكَ دونُ
It was not enough that you are vinegar—
It was not enough that you created
you are base as well.
Until you became the source
