عَذِيْريmy defender منagainst سَقيمِone ailing in المُقْلَتَيْنِthe two eyes
عَذِيْري من سَقيمِ المُقْلَتَيْنِ
فماfor not بِهِماagainst them both لِخَلْقٍfor any creature مِنْany (emphatic) يَدَيْنِstrength (literally, two hands)
فما بِهِما لِخَلْقٍ مِنْ يَدَيْنِ
Who will defend me against one whose two eyes are ailing?
My excuse is from the sick of the two eyelids
For no creature has the strength to withstand them.
For they have no hands for creation

بَلا قَلْبي المَشُوقَ بِمَرضَتَيْنِ
Ailing in his gaze from eye inflammation and coquetry,
Sick of glance from rheum and conjunctivitis
he afflicted my yearning heart with two illnesses.
Without my longing heart with two sicknesses
وماand not عَجبيmy wonder لِصَوْلِهماat their assault شَهِيرَيْunsheathed (continued)

And I do not marvel at their assault when unsheathed—
And I am not surprised at their renowned illness
but how did they strike while sheathed?
But how did they become ill while sheathed
