The embroidery of your cheeks with basil and wine

has left no mind sound—no, nor sober.

Myrtle down upon two cheeks that have united

the lustre of wine with refreshment for souls.

Blessed be God, who fashioned it in due measure:

two sprigs of basil upon two cups of wine.

As for the cheek-down, how fully it would bear out my excuse,

if the reproacher could behold it through my eyes.

I shall bind my soul to patience's rule, seeking

my reward from God for refuting my advisers.
