Say, gazelle, who traced two wāw letters
Say, O gazelle, who designed the two crescent moons
just above two cheeks, beyond compare?
Above cheeks without equal
قدindeed جَلَّis exalted مَنْthe one who أبدعْfashioned wondrously

Exalted indeed is He who fashioned,
He who created excelled
without any rival,
Beyond any praise

Your unparalleled beauty
peerless in its loveliness;
In its unmatched elegance

and made the full moon rise
And the full moon has risen
from that stature,
From that slender waist

perfectly proportioned, swaying in two cloaks,
Poised evenly, swaying with two cool cheeks
like a supple branch yielding to the north wind.
Like a gentle branch bending in the breeze

enslaved by beauty,
Enslaved by beauty
enthralled by love?
Infatuated with love

And how fares one who, because of parting, keeps
And how fares one who remained separated
watching the two Simāk stars throughout the nights?
Shepherding the two eyelids through the long nights

Glory to its Creator
a marvel without equal,
With a supplication beyond compare

Like a deer astray
and a branch in form.
And a branch in appearance

O you who reproach me for him,
Oh you who blame him
you have gone too far in reproach.
You have exceeded in blame

Leave off arguing: nothing brought me my doom
Let go of contention, for when my eyes met
but two eyes that shoot arrows.
The dispute of two gazes hurling arrows
قَدْindeed ذُبْتُI have melted بالأشواقْwith longing

I have melted with longing,
I melted in passions
and died of love.
And died in love

Passionate longing burns on,
The ecstasy in torment
and tears pour down.
And tears pouring forth

Oh people, is there a healer
to charm away my heart's burning anguish?
To mend my heart's wound

I have no defense against the glance of two eyelids,
I have no tricks under the gaze of two eyes
which shoots two arrows and cares nothing.
That shoots two arrows without care
واعَدَنيpromised me الشَّاطِرْthe rogue

The rogue promised me
The cunning one promised
a visit that would bring him near;
To visit with a glimpse

فَظَلْتُso I kept أستدعِيهْI call him
then turned away, shying off,
Then turned away aloof
so I kept calling him.
And I kept calling him
فإذْso when أتىhe came خاطِرْstrutting
شدَوْتُهI sang to him تَنْبِيهْa reminder
Then when he came, strutting,
But when the idea came to me
I sang to him a reminder:
I chided it to rouse

Crescent-faced one, tell me, O light of my eye:
Say to me, oh light of my eyes
will you delay my due like this? Enough delay!
Do you delay my debt like this, it's enough hesitance
