العِشْقُpassionate love هِمَّةُpreoccupation نَفْسٍa soul
العِشْقُ هِمَّةُ نَفْسٍ
عَنِof الرَّشادِsound judgment خَلِيَّهْdevoid
عَنِ الرَّشادِ خَلِيَّهْ
Passionate love is the preoccupation of a soul
Love is an aspiration of the soul
devoid of sound judgment.
Free from prudent council
يُعْميblinds البَصِيْرَthe clear-sighted ويُدْنيand draws near
يُعْمي البَصِيْرَ ويُدْني
مِنَto الأُمورِthe affairs الدَّنِيَّهْbase
مِنَ الأُمورِ الدَّنِيَّهْ
It blinds the clear-sighted and draws them near
It blinds the clairvoyant and draws one near
to base affairs.
To base affairs
لمdid not تَشْتَغِلْbusy themselves بالتَّصابِيwith youthful dalliance
لم تَشْتَغِلْ بالتَّصابِي
إِلّاexcept النُّفوسُthe souls الشَّقيَّهْwretched
إِلّا النُّفوسُ الشَّقيَّهْ
None have busied themselves with youthful dalliance
None are occupied with affectations
except wretched souls.
