O you who, through your lovely qualities,

Have bound me in love’s servitude.

The lights of your radiant cheeks

Have brought me this longing and heartache.

And in your lips’ dusky tint lies my cure,

If it would give me another draught of the vines’ daughter.

Why not make your favor my gift,

Instead of bestowing separation upon me?

For the utmost of all I seek and wish would be mine,

    If I gained your favor.
