    I have brought two witnesses to my love:

    the sickness of my body and the tears of my eye.

    And here I am, swearing an oath

    by a rose upon two cheeks.

    Jasmine has encircled it; it is guarded

    by two scorpions formed from a temple-lock’s curve.

    ما غَيَّرَتْهُ صُروفُ بَيْنِ

    Indeed, love for you lies in the very core of my heart;

    the vicissitudes of separation have not changed it.

    So does the judge of love have the authority

    to rule on what lies between you and me?
