How long will the string's call keep summoning you?

So answer the call, and devote yourself to wakefulness.

And rouse your eyelids from their slumber,

for raindrops have awakened the garden.

Do you not see the stars, like necklaces,

from which dawn has plundered pearls?

And darkness gathered up its hem, fearing

for it when dawn came bursting forth.

    كَساها سَنا الصُّبحِ مثْلَ الخَفرْ

    And our garden is unveiled like a bride;

dawn's radiance clothed her in a semblance of bashfulness.

And the leaning branches have strung

pearls of dew scattered upon them.

And a spreading tree stood as a sky for us,

in which blossoms appeared like bright stars.

So hurry the wine along, and serve the drinking companions,

and soothe love's anguish, and set thoughts aside.

And steal from your time its unguarded moments,

for whoever has dared has won the joy of living.
