هَلْ جُسومٌ يومَ النَّوى ودَّعوها

باقِياتٌ لِسُوءِ ما أوْدَعُوها

Is grief their lot when lovers part

With memories of joys now in their heart?

يا حُداةَ القُلوب ما العَدْلُ هذا

أتْبعُوها أجْسادَها أوْ دَعُوها

O judges cruel! What justice is this?

Did you make their bodies follow their spirits' bliss?
