أما تَرَى الصُّدْغَ خَطَّ واواً

أما تَرَى الصُّدْغَ خَطَّ واواً

في صَفْحِ خَدَّيَّ للعَيانِ

في صَفْحِ خَدَّيَّ للعَيانِ

Do you not see how the sidelock has traced a wāw

Do you not see the cheek has etched a waw

on the surface of my two cheeks, in plain view?

On the page of my cheek for all to see

فإنْ يَنَلْ قَلْبَكَ انْكِسارٌ

فإنْ يَنَلْ قَلْبَكَ انْكِسارٌ

فالواوُ مِنْ أحْرُفِ المعاني

فالواوُ مِنْ أحْرُفِ المعاني

So if your heart should be broken,

If your heart is struck with grief

then wāw is one of the grammatical particles.

The waw is but a letter conveying meaning
