By the coy allure of those wide eyes,

And the temptations they hold, tell me:

Is it your hair that is pitch-black, or my heart?

And is it your figure that sways, or my mind?

Love has bewildered me; I have no mind

To distinguish one form from another.

O young gazelle whose flank sways me,

Will he show me tenderness through union?

    يَكْفيكَ باللهِ مِنَ المَطْلِ

    You have gone too far in forsaking me, O you who delay;

For God's sake, enough of delay!

If my death pleases you, then do not

Do any other work, for God's sake.

Shed my blood and plunder my heart,

And you owe me no recompense.

By God, none but you is my desire,

And no wish but yours is mine.
