Who will defend me against a reprover
Who can blame my love
Over a somewhat dusky fawn,
For one with dusky complexion yet fairer than musk perfume?

Lighter in color than the tint of musk,
My love knows not
Yet surpassing musk in fragrance?
That my heart's darkness and gaze's blackness

And does my reprover not know
Gave rise to him, flourishing between my ribs,
That his dusky hue is part of the garb he donned
Residing in my eyes.

When he grew between my ribs
And dwelt in my two eyes?
