To God (an exclamation of admiration) حَمَّامٌa bathhouse حَكَتْنِيْmirrored me حالُهُits state
ماءٌwater يَصُوبُpours down وحَرُّand heat نارٍa fire تُضْرَمُis kindled
God be praised for a bathhouse whose state mirrored my own:
For God I have a dove that told me its condition:
Water pouring down, and the heat of a blazing fire.
Water pouring and the heat of a blazing fire,
فكأنَّماso it is as though نِيرانُهُits fires ومِياهُهُand its waters
والجِسْمُand the body بينَهُماbetween them both يَلَذُّtakes pleasure ويَنْعَمُand enjoys ease
It is as though its fires and waters—
So it seems its fires and its waters
while the body between them delights and enjoys ease—
Are the body between enjoying and luxuriating.
قَلْبٌa heart تَقَلَّبَturned بينَamong لذَّاتِthe pleasures of الهَوىlove
وحَشاهُand its core يَصْلىburns والمَدامِعُand the tear ducts تَسْجُمُstream
were a heart turning amid the pleasures of love,
A heart tossed between the pleasures of passion
while its core burns and the eyes stream with tears.
And its worries pray while the tears flow.
