يهيجُstirs مَسَرَّتيmy joy جَرَبٌscabies بكَفِّيon my palm
يهيجُ مَسَرَّتي جَرَبٌ بكَفِّي
إذاif ماemphatic particle عُدَّis counted فيamong الكُربِthe afflictions العِظامِgreat
إذا ما عُدَّ في الكُربِ العِظامِ
Scabies on my palm stirs my joy,
My joy is stirred by a cup in my palm
even if it is counted among great afflictions.
When counted amidst formidable sorrows
تَجَنَّبُنيavoid me اللِّئامُthe base لذاكfor that reason حتىso that
تَجَنَّبُني اللِّئامُ لذاك حتى
كُفِيتُI have been spared بهthrough it مُصافحةَshaking hands with اللِّئامِthe base
كُفِيتُ به مُصافحةَ اللِّئامِ
The base avoid me for that reason, so that
Because of this, the vile avoid me
through it I have been spared shaking hands with the base.
