Say to Ibn Abdan, the lowly and base:
Say to the son of Abdan, the lowliest of the low,
You were appointed vizier instead of me, though your worth is beneath mine.
You were chosen in my place though your worth is less than mine,

Was it for your accursed handwriting, or for your speech—
Is it for your cursed writing, or your unrhythmic speech,
ungrammatical—or for your pierced perineum?
Or your feeble manners that you were chosen?
