ضعت بأرض الرَّيِّ في أهلها
ضياعَthe loss of حَرفthe letter الرَّاءِrāʾ (r) فيin اللُّثغَهa lisp
ضياعَ حَرف الرَّاءِ في اللُّثغَه
I was lost in the land of Rayy among its people,
In the land of grazing I lost amongst its people
as the letter rāʾ is lost in a lisp.

صِرتُI became بهاin it بعدafter بلوغِattaining الغناwealth
صِرتُ بها بعد بلوغِ الغنا
يعجبُنيit delights me أنthat أبلُغَI attain البُلغَةbare subsistence
يعجبُني أن أبلُغَ البُلغَة
