دعَاوَى الناسِ في الدّنيا فنونُ

دعَاوَى الناسِ في الدّنيا فنونُ

وعلمُ الناسِ أكثرُهُ ظنونُ

وعلمُ الناسِ أكثرُهُ ظنونُ

People's claims in this world are manifold;

and people's knowledge is mostly conjecture.

وكم من قائلٍ أنا من فُلانٍ

وكم من قائلٍ أنا من فُلانٍ

وعند فُلانَة الخبرُ اليقينُ

وعند فُلانَة الخبرُ اليقينُ

And many a man says, 'I am descended from so-and-so,'

yet with such-and-such a woman lies the certain truth.
