O my hope above all humankind,

How long will you dash my hope?

And how long must I remain in 'not' and 'already',

And 'soon', 'no', 'why not?' and 'but'?

Am I not the one who twists and turns in your defense,

With white swords and brown spears?

And were your command to reach me, bidding me

To die, then I would die before my appointed time.

So may rain bless him, whether he draws near or goes far,

And whether he lodges in our courtyard or departs.

When he visits me, I fear his enemies,

So I conceal his footprints with kisses.

And my forsaking his door is not from aversion,

But because all pretexts are spent.
