لِقَالةِbecause of the tale of واشٍa slanderer أوor كلامِthe words of مُحَرّشِan instigator
لِقَالةِ واشٍ أو كلامِ مُحَرّشِ
By your honor, I have not delayed sending you my letters
I swear I did not delay my letters from you
because of a slanderer's tale or an instigator's words.
For the prattle of a gossip or the words of a babbler
ولكنَّand yet دَمعيmy tears إنif كَتَبتُI write مُشَوِّشٌblurring
ولكنَّ دَمعي إن كَتَبتُ مُشَوِّشٌ
كتابيmy letter وماand what نفعُuse الكتابِthe letter الُمشوَّشِthe blurred
كتابي وما نفعُ الكتابِ الُمشوَّشِ
But my tears, if I write, blur
Rather my tears, when I write, make my writing confused
my letter—and what use is a blurred letter?
Of no use is writing that is confused
