مَنwhoever قاسَcompared جَدواكَyour bounty بالغمامِto the cloud فَماthen did not
مَن قاسَ جَدواكَ بالغمامِ فَما
ألصَفَwas fair (likely intended: أنصف) فيin الحكمِjudgment بينَbetween شيئينِtwo things
ألصَفَ في الحكمِ بينَ شيئينِ
Whoever compares your bounty to the cloud has not
Whoever compared your cheek to a cloud did not
judged fairly between two things.
Judge rightly between two things:
أنتyou إذاwhen جُدتَyou gave generously ضاحِكٌsmiling أبداًalways
أنت إذا جُدتَ ضاحِكٌ أبداً
وذَاكَand that one إِنif جَادَit gave generously دامِعُtearful العَينِthe eye
وذَاكَ إِن جَادَ دامِعُ العَينِ
When you give, you are always smiling,
You, when serious, are ever smiling,
while that one, if it gives, is tearful-eyed.
While clouds, when serious, fill the eyes with tears.
