تطوَّقتُ مِن مَنِّ الحَمَامِ الُمطَوَّقِ
Ah, would that I knew how to give thanks for some of what
Alas! How can I thank some of what
I have worn about my neck from the ring-necked dove's bounty.
I have been endowed with of the gifts of the dovelike dove
فَدَتmay ransom مُهجَتيmy lifeblood أيكاًa grove عليهupon it سقوطهits alighting
فَدَت مُهجَتي أيكاً عليه سقوطه

وفرخاً بَدَا من بيضه المتفلّقِ
May my lifeblood ransom a grove where it alights,
My skull would be sacrificed for him as it fell on me
And a chick that appeared from its cracked eggs.
And a chick appeared from its cracked egg

خليلي وخلَّى صحبتي كلُّ مُشفِقِ
Indeed, my lament joined its lament when I had wearied
My wailing accompanied his wailing when
My dear friend, and every compassionate soul forsook my company.
My friend wearied me and left me every sympathizer

بَكَيتُI wept لأشواقيfor my longings ولand not (apparently incomplete) يتشوقِit yearns
بَكَيتُ لأشواقي ول يتشوقِ
We are alike in weeping, except that I
We are equal in crying except that I
Wept for my longings, while it did not yearn.
Cried for my longings while he does not yearn
