ومن مُبلغٌ عني الأميرَ ابنَ بُويه
ومنand among عجبِwonders of الدنياthe world أميرٌan emir ولاand no أمرُcommand
ومن عجبِ الدنيا أميرٌ ولا أمرُ
And who will carry my message to the emir, Ibn Buwayh?
And who will convey to the prince son of Buyeh from me
And among the world's wonders is an emir with no command.
And it is strange in the world an emirate with no orders
أسرَّكdid it delight you منfrom فضلانَFadlan إصلاحُpreparation of دعوةٍa banquet
أسرَّك من فضلانَ إصلاحُ دعوةٍ
بأموالكwith your wealth اللاتيwhich تخوَّنهاdepleted it الغدرُtreachery
بأموالك اللاتي تخوَّنها الغدرُ
Did Fadlan's preparation of a banquet delight you,
Delighting you from the virtue of reforming an invitation
with your wealth, which treachery had depleted?
With your wealth which betrayal will waste
كممهورةٍlike a woman given a dowry منout of حُمقِهاher foolishness بَعضُsome of حَليهاher jewelry
كممهورةٍ من حُمقِها بَعضُ حَليها
تسرshe rejoices بأنat the fact that ومنwhile from كيسهاher purse المهرُthe dowry
تسر بأن ومن كيسها المهرُ
Like a woman foolishly given some of her own jewelry as a dowry,
Like a foolish woman covered in some of her jewelry
she rejoices that ..., though the dowry comes from her own purse.
