قالوا أشتَغِل عنهمُ يوماً بغيرهِمُ

قالوا أشتَغِل عنهمُ يوماً بغيرهِمُ

وخادِعِ النَّفسَ إن النفسَ تنخدِعُ

وخادِعِ النَّفسَ إن النفسَ تنخدِعُ

They said, “Distract yourself from them one day with others,”

They said, “Turn your attention from them to others for a day,

and beguile the soul—for the soul can be beguiled.

and deceive yourself, for the self can be deceived.”

قد صِيغَ قَلبي على مِقدَارِ حُبِّهمُ

قد صِيغَ قَلبي على مِقدَارِ حُبِّهمُ

فما لِحُبِّ سواهُم فيه مُتَّسَعُ

فما لِحُبِّ سواهُم فيه مُتَّسَعُ

My heart was fashioned to the measure of my love for them,

My heart was indeed fashioned to the measure of my love for them;

so there is no room within it for the love of any but them.

so there is no room in it for love of anyone else.
