كمhow many كمhow many مُلَحٍwitticisms علىupon أذاهhis abuse
كم كم مُلَحٍ على أذاه
يسلُّhe draws منfrom فكِّهِhis jaw حُسَاماًa sharp sword
يسلُّ من فكِّهِ حُسَاماً
How many, how many witticisms accompany his abuse!
How much salt upon his injury
He draws a sharp sword from his jaw.
Spills from his mouth a blazing sword
صَبَّhe poured قَذَىgrit القَولِthe speech فيinto صُمَاخِيmy ear canal
صَبَّ قَذَى القَولِ في صُمَاخِي
فَصَارَso became حِلميmy forbearance لهfor him فِدَاماًa muzzle
فَصَارَ حِلمي له فِدَاماً
He poured the grit of speech into my ear,
He poured the sparks of words in my ears
So my forbearance became a muzzle for him.
So my dream for him became ransom
