وَكَافرand a disbeliever بالمَعَادِin resurrection أَمسَىbegan
وَكَافر بالمَعَادِ أَمسَى
يَخلُبنُيbeguiles me قولهُhis speech الخلُوبُbeguiling
يَخلُبنُي قولهُ الخلُوبُ
And a denier of resurrection began
He who denies the day of judgement
To beguile me with his beguiling speech.
His words steal my heart
قالhe said اغتنمseize لذَّةَthe pleasure of اللياليthe nights
قال اغتنم لذَّةَ الليالي
وعَدِّand turn away عَنfrom آجِلٍa future يَرِيبُthat arouses doubt
وعَدِّ عَن آجِلٍ يَرِيبُ
He said, “Seize the pleasure of the nights,
He said "Seize the pleasure of nights"
And turn away from a future that arouses doubt.”
And turn away from the uncertain future
صَلَّturned foul هُداَاهُhis guidance وجَاءَand he came يُهديto guide
صَلَّ هُداَاهُ وجَاءَ يُهدي
طُبَّheal لِعَينَيكَfor your two eyes ياO طبيبُphysician
طُبَّ لِعَينَيكَ يا طبيبُ
His guidance turned foul, yet he came to guide—
May Allah guide him and he come to guide
Heal your own eyes, O physician!
Good for your eyes, oh physician!
أأخطأَhave they erred? العَالِمُونthe learned طُرَّاًall
أأخطأَ العَالِمُون طُرَّاً
وَأَنتَand you مِنfrom بينهِمamong them مُصيبُare right
وَأَنتَ مِن بينهِم مُصيبُ
Have the learned all been mistaken,
Have the scholars made a mistake?
While you, among them, are right?
While you among them are correct?
