إذاif أناI بلغتI bring to attainment نفسيmy soul المنىthe wishes
إذا أنا بلغت نفسي المنى
منfrom رشأa young gazelle ماnot زالceased ليfor me ممرضاcausing illness
من رشأ ما زال لي ممرضا
If I let my soul attain its wishes
If I attain what I desire
Once I have granted my soul its deepest wish
From a young gazelle who has never ceased to make me ill,
Though the path be full of woe
from a fawn who has never ceased to make me lovesick,
فماthen not أباليI care الكرةthe return; turning back منfrom طاعةٍobedience
فما أبالي الكرة من طاعةٍ
ولاand not أباليI care سخطاًdispleasure منinstead of رضاapproval
ولا أبالي سخطاً من رضا
Then I care not for turning back from obedience,
Little care I for men's sway
I care not whether met with aversion or compliance,
Nor do I care for displeasure instead of approval.
Little care I for their wrath.
nor do I heed displeasure versus favor.

If I find water, I must
When I find the fountain's wave
For whenever I find water, I surely must
Quench with it the blaze of ghada embers.
I must slake the burning glow.
quench with it the blazing embers of the ghada wood.
