وددتُI wished بأنّthat القلبَthe heart شُقَّwere slit open بِمُديَةٍwith a knife
وأُدخِلتِand you were placed فيهinside it ثمthen أطبِقَit was sealed فيwithin صدريmy breast
I wished that my heart were slit open with a knife,
I wish my heart would split open
and you placed inside it, then it sealed within my breast,
So you could slip inside and close within my chest
فأصبحتِso you came to be فيهwithin it لاnot تَحُلِّينyou dwell غيرَهanywhere but it
إلىuntil مُقتَضىwhat is ordained يومَthe Day of القيامةResurrection والحشرand the Gathering
so you would be within it, dwelling nowhere else,
To live there, never leaving, till the day we rise,
until what the Day of Resurrection and Gathering ordains.
Shared grave and shared sky.
تعِيشِينَyou live فيهwithin it ماas long as حيِيتُI lived، فإنand if أمُتI die
سكنتِyou would dwell شِغافَthe innermost core القلبِof the heart فيin ظُلَمِthe depths of darkness القبرِof the grave
You would live within it as long as I lived; and if I died,
Stay, while I breathe, my life, and when I die,
you would dwell in my heart’s innermost core, in the darkness of the grave.
Sleep in the wreckage of my empty heart.
