كيفhow أنمI speak ill of النوىseparation وأظلمهاand wrong it
كيف أنم النوى وأظلمها
وكلُّand all أخلاقtraits منthe one whom أحبI love نوىestrangement
وكلُّ أخلاق من أحب نوى
How can I speak ill of separation and wrong it,
How can I sleep while darkness falls
How can I blame separation and do it wrong,
when every trait of the one I love is estrangement?
When all the morals of the one I love are gone
When every trait of the one I love is estrangement?
قدalready كانwas يكفيsuffices هوىlove أضيقI am distressed بهby it
قد كان يكفي هوى أضيق به
فكيفso how إذwhen حلbefell نوىseparation وهوىand love
فكيف إذ حل نوى وهوى
Love that distresses me would already have been enough;
Even the slightest passion would suffice
A burdensome passion alone would have been enough to bear,
how then, when separation and love have both befallen me?
So how can I rest now that love and desire have come
So how will it be now that both separation and desire have struck?
