He came to me while the rain clouds' water poured through the air,
The rain of spring came to me in the air pouring down,
He came to me while the rain from the clouds poured through the sky,
like pure silver being drawn out and cast:
Like the pure drink of life when it flows and intertwines.
Like pure silver being drawn out and cast into form.

the crescent of dark nights, descending from his horizon's sky.
The crescent moon descended from its high horizon,
A crescent of the dark nights descended from the vault of his horizon,
Then speak of a lover who gained what cannot be attained!
So say to the lover who attained what cannot be grasped:
So speak of a lover who attained what is beyond reach!

And what took place—if you were to ask me about it—
And it was as if, whenever I asked about it,
And that which happened—if you were to ask me of it,
I have no answer but to laugh.
I had no answer but to smile,
I would have no answer to give except that I laugh.
لفرطfrom the intensity of سروريmy joy خلتنيI thought myself عنهabout it نائماًasleep
لفرط سروري خلتني عنه نائماً
فياthen, O عجباًwonder منat موقنone who is certain يتشككdoubts
فيا عجباً من موقن يتشكك
So great was my joy, I thought I was dreaming of it.
Out of abundant joy it made me sleep away from it.
From the sheer excess of my joy, I fancied I was dreaming in my sleep;
How wondrous, then, that one so certain should doubt!
How strange for a believer to doubt!
O how wondrous it is: one who is certain, yet doubts!
