The lovesick lover’s tears are shed,
The morning's tears are shed,
The tears of the passionate lover are shed,
And the lovesick lover’s veil is torn.
The morning's veil is torn.
And the secret veil of the lover is torn away;

As though the heart, when it appears,
My heart appears as though
As though his heart, in its trembling,
Were a sandgrouse caught in a snare.
Ensnared by fate forlorn.
Were a sandgrouse ensnared in a net.
فياso, O أصحابناour companions قولواspeak
فيا أصحابنا قولوا
فإنfor indeed الرأيcounsel مشتركshared
فإن الرأي مشترك
So, our companions, speak,
My friends, I ask you speak,
O my companions, speak and advise me,
For counsel is shared.
For counsel must be borne.
For counsel is meant to be shared:
إلىuntil كمhow long ذاthis أكاتمهI keep it concealed
إلى كم ذا أكاتمه
وماليand I have no عنهfrom it متركescape
ومالي عنه مترك
How long shall I keep this concealed,
How long can I conceal
How long must I conceal this longing,
When I have no escape from it?
What I cannot forewarn?
When I have no way to turn away from it?
