Night has already turned away from us; so chant to the camels,
The night has turned its back on us, so drive the camels,
though the ringing of bright swords and spears has sufficed them.
Though the clacking of white and dusky camels suffices.

They emerge from the valley's right side and its left,
They come out from the right side of the valley engulfing it,
and the arak trees there are nothing but slender lances.
With nothing in it but the slender interwoven palm-trees.

وأشبه الليل درعَ الفارس البطل
Indeed, when you take a wide plain for a dark shape,
When they call loudly, the valley becomes desolate,
and night resembles the armor of a heroic horseman,
And the night resembles the coat of mail of the brave horseman.

we surely startle the tribe, whose keen swords have fallen asleep
We will startle the living who sleep, while their swords
in safety's bed, between heads and their crowns.
Lie in the bed of safety between the hillocks and heights.

So our young camels do not follow the driving-song in haste,
We will not hasten upon them suddenly and drive on in fear,
nor do our swift steeds run in fear.

And at forenoon, fragrant aloeswood may give us away,
From the encampments amongst which are frail shelters
from the pavilions they occupy and the bed-curtains.
Welcoming the secrets heavy with farewells and kisses.

Concealed, laden with secrets,
Bearing slight provisions in their resting-places
with provisions from one like me: farewells and kisses,
When moving beside the slender entwined palm-trees.

Neither forgetfulness nor recollection harms our friendship,
as the lean travelers' flanks shift.

or her words, as she flushed with shame:
And the men of Shaiban have fought against you manfully."

A people who subdued the world for its inhabitants,
And may Banu Shayban fight you—what a man!'
And men and jinn to them are like docile camels.

A people who have subdued the world for its inhabitants;
They seized the trophies of kings' power,
its humans are theirs, and its jinn are like servants.
And they have curbed the necks of the people of horses and gowns.

They alone have seized the spoils of kings, and they
They have ruled the eras and controlled the fates,
have shorn the forelocks of the lords of steeds and robes.
And they have lived securely throughout the dynasties.

They have granted protection against time and ruled
Connected from the beginning to the end of time,

And if you ask of their eminence, it has not ceased.

from time's beginning, joined to its end.
Of all the living, none but them
And if you ask about their eminence, it has never ceased.
Have long arms, and spears, and swords.

No tribe among the tribes, save theirs, possesses
They pieced the enemy's chests until when their own chests broke open,
such long forearms, sword-blades, and spears.
They stabbed with the sturdy, brilliant swords.

They honor their lances until, when they break,
Their tongues, from the length of time they were unsheathed,
their points gone, they thrust with the remaining shaft-joints.
If assembled on coats of mail, would be like kindling wood.

Their spearheads wished, so long had they been severed,
So they strike their bed of hillocks with flaming,
to be fitted onto their sinewy arms.
Rushing from its place of assault and piercing the skull.

Their blows upon the skulls' thin bones are blazing
They are not startled the morn after fear startles them,
before they land, and their thrusts pierce the eyes.
Except to the clamor of the majestic, dreadful event.

They seek no refuge at terror's dawn, if they seek any,
And war would not boast of its horsemen without them,
except in a mighty undertaking amid a mighty calamity.
For the army would be like grazing beasts, and swords like defects.

And in war, unless its horsemen are drawn from them,
Who stretch out to well-being hands
the army is like dust, and the swords like toothpicks.

Those who stretch their palms toward the supplicant—
The rain knew that if it resembled them
only in a simile are they likened to a pouring rain-cloud.
Something of stinginess would infect its torrential downpour.

Rain itself knows that, had it resembled them,
I heard of the Master of the World, Master of them,
a trace of stinginess would have tainted their generosity.
Who was the epitome of every perfection.

and in every kind of generosity he was the supreme exemplar,
I saw him and saw people in a man.

The Ariha man only gives hope,

While the Hebronite only dashes courage.

The open-handed one—he grants only what is hoped for;
I will not be discouraged by his discouragement over danger
and the mighty warrior—he fells none but heroes.
As long as I remain under his reviving pardon, hoping.

Conversation polishes his hearing through intimacy,
so long as I have hope in his life-giving pardon.
And dew can only run towards fresh herbage.

He delights his ears with reprovers who reproach him,
Radiance is concealed from only his insight,

Plain truth is hidden from all but his insight,
Supported by God's guidance, accompanying him,
until sound speech becomes like foolish prattle.
And in God's guidance you will never see any defect.

A youth whose exalted stature I have attested, as
From the family of Shaiban and the loyal ones, when they contracted
I have attested God's oneness and eternity,
Protection of their neighbor in the first eras.
