أسقَطَhe dropped الحاءَthe letter ḥāʾ (ح) منfrom الحمدِpraise
أسقَطَ الحاءَ من الحمدِ
وماand not ذاكthat لعيّdue to ineloquence
وما ذاك لعيّ
He dropped the letter ḥāʾ from al-ḥamd (praise),
He dropped the H from praise
and that was not due to ineloquence;
That was no mistake
إنَّماmerely يُنقِصُhe leaves out حَرفاًa letter
إنَّما يُنقِصُ حَرفاً
فيin الحُسينِal-Husayn بنson of عليّAli
في الحُسينِ بن عليّ
he merely leaves out a letter
He only subtracted a letter
in al-Husayn, son of Ali.
