وأبْيَضَ من ماءِ الحديدِ كأنّمَا

وأبْيَضَ من ماءِ الحديدِ كأنّمَا

يبِيتُ عليه من خشونَتِهِ طَلُّ

يبِيتُ عليه من خشونَتِهِ طَلُّ

And a gleaming sword of iron’s pure essence, as though

dew lay upon it all night because of its roughness.

ألا ثَكَلَتْ أُمُّ امرىءٍ هو بَزُّهُ

ألا ثَكَلَتْ أُمُّ امرىءٍ هو بَزُّهُ

إذا لم يُفارِقْ عِزَّ أيّامِهِ الذُّلُّ

إذا لم يُفارِقْ عِزَّ أيّامِهِ الذُّلُّ

Ah, may the mother of a man whose weapon it is be bereaved,

if humiliation does not leave his days of glory.
