ثلاثُthree خِصَالqualities سُدتُI became chief بهاthrough them عَشيرَتيmy clan
ثلاثُ خِصَال سُدتُ بها عَشيرَتي
وَمنand whoever لمnot تَكُنbe present فيهin him فَليسَthen he is not بِسَيِّدِa chief
وَمن لم تَكُن فيه فَليسَ بِسَيِّدِ
Through three qualities I became chief of my clan;
Three qualities have made me the chief of my tribe
And whoever lacks them is no chief.
He who lacks them cannot be a lord
فهُنَّso they are إذاwhen واخيتُI formed brotherly ties صِرفُpure essence مَوَدَّتيmy affection
فهُنَّ إذا واخيتُ صِرفُ مَوَدَّتي
وَجودُand generosity يَمينيmy right hand وامتداحُand praise of مُحَمَّدِMuhammad
وَجودُ يَميني وامتداحُ مُحَمَّدِ
They are: my unalloyed affection when I form brotherly ties,
When I make a pact I keep affection
And the generosity of my right hand, and my praise of Muhammad.
