Slay this Samiri sorcerer,
Where Long Ago the Sweet Birds Sang
And make him taste the cleaving Mashrafi sword.
كمhow often قُلتُI said إذwhen نَزَّهتُI let roam for pleasure فيover وجناتهhis cheeks
طرفيmy gaze فماand ... not رَجَعتreturned إليَّto me محاجرِيmy eye sockets
How often I said, as I roamed over his cheeks
With my gaze—yet my eyes never returned to me:
ذاthis ويحَكُمwoe to you all ماءٌwater وَجَمرٌand embers مُحرِقٌscorching
فقدfor indeed احترَقتُI have burned وماand ... not تَرَوَّىdrank its fill ناظِرِيmy eye
This—woe to you all—is water and scorching embers!
For I have burned, yet my eye has not drunk its fill.
