ياO ربِّmy Lord أنتYou مَلأَتَhave filled عَقْدconstitution (literally, knot) مصاحبيmy companion
سَقَماًwith sickness فهلso is there سَبَبٌa means إلىto تصحيحهِsetting him right
O Lord, You have filled my companion’s constitution
with sickness—is there a way to set him right?
فبماso, since جعلتَYou made الطَّوْدَthe mountain يُشْبِهresemble ثِقْلَهhis heaviness
فيin روُحهhis spirit بلnay رأْسَهhis head فيin ريحهits wind
So, since You made the mountain resemble his heaviness
of spirit—nay, his head in its wind—
فاجعلso put ثقالةَthe heaviness of روحهِhis spirit فيin عقلهِhis mind
الخاويempty وخفَّةَand the lightness of عقلِهِhis mind فيin روحهِhis spirit
put his spirit’s heaviness into his mind,
empty as it is, and his mind’s lightness into his spirit.
