لائميyou who reproach me فيfor قمرٍa moon بتُّI spent the night لهbefore him
ساجداًprostrate إذwhen لاحshone فيin ليلthe night of الشَّعَرْhair
O you who reproach me for a moon before whom I spent the night
prostrate, when he shone in the night of hair:
لكfor you دينٌa faith ولناسٍand for some people غيرُهُother than it
ولبعضِand for some of الناسِthe people أديانٌfaiths أُخَرْother
You have a faith, and some people have another,
and some people have other faiths.
وكماand just as للشمسto the sun قومٌsome people سَجدُواthey prostrated themselves
فكذاso likewise يسجدُprostrate themselves قومٌsome people للقمَرْto the moon
And just as some people prostrated themselves before the sun,
so do some people prostrate themselves before the moon.
