ومهنَّدٍand a sword of Indian steel سَبَحswam الفرندُthe watered pattern بصفحهِacross its flat
ومهنَّدٍ سَبَح الفرندُ بصفحهِ
وطَفَاand floated فيُحسَبso it is thought مُغْمَداًsheathed مسلولاdrawn (unsheathed)
وطَفَا فيُحسَب مُغْمَداً مسلولا
And a sword of Indian steel, whose watered pattern swam across its blade,
With spear aloft the Frank on his steed did prance,
And floated, so it is thought sheathed though drawn.
As though sheathed in armor and bearing a lance.
