ومهفهفٍand a slender youth لماwhen رآنيَhe saw me ناظراًgazing
ومهفهفٍ لما رآنيَ ناظراً
منهof his إلىat وجهٍa face كضوءِlike the light of صباحِmorning
منه إلى وجهٍ كضوءِ صباحِ
And a slender youth, when he saw me gazing
When he saw me gazing
At his face, like the light of morning,
At a face like the morning's radiant light,
أَهْوَىhe brought لمبسمهto his smiling mouth البنانَthe fingertips مُسَلِّماًin greeting
أَهْوَى لمبسمه البنانَ مُسَلِّماً
فكأَنماso it was as though أَوْمَىhe gestured لقَطْفِto pluck أَقَاحdaisies
فكأَنما أَوْمَى لقَطْفِ أَقَاح
Brought his fingertips to his smiling mouth in greeting,
He inclined towards my smile in surrender
As though he gestured to pluck daisies.
As if beckoning to pluck ripe fruit.
