Yours are sovereignty and the sword that secured the realm.
You possess the kingdom and the sword that paved the way to kingship
And with it Islam charged and crushed polytheism.
With it, Islam prevailed and polytheism was demolished

يُفَتَّقُis unsealed للأسماعِfor the ears فخرهمُtheir glory مسكاas musk
You followed in the steps of royal forefathers, as though
You have humbled kings and fathers as if
Their glory were unsealed as musk for the ears.
Their pride for the ears was musk ready to be unraveled

And every man deep-rooted in courage is bold;
And every honorable one, foremost in courage
His are the wide-gashing blow and the straight-piercing thrust.
For him is the empty blow and the piercing stab

Whenever he assails the enemy's land with a vast army,
When he aims the land of enemies with a fierce throw
With a sky of dust above it, he leaves the land leveled.
Upon it the starry sky of spears, he left it flattened

And from the taint of cowardice clinging to their novice,
And from the essence of cowardice tied to their ignorance
Their essence grew pure, smelted in the fire of battle.
A purified gem through the fire of turmoil minted
بَنَيتَyou built بِهَدمِby destroying المالِwealth كَعبَةَa Kaaba ماجِدٍof a noble man

You built, by laying waste to wealth, a noble man's Kaaba,
You built with the demolition of wealth a glorious sanctuary
To whose pilgrimage we urge on young she-camels and ships.
To its pilgrimage we bid the ships and vessels
فَياso, O ابنَson تَميمٍof Tamim ذاpossessor of الفخارِglory الَّذيthat لَهُit has

So, O son of Tamim, bearer of glory that has
So O son of Tameem, yours is the pride
A beacon whose height you see above al-Simak.
With a minaret that appears atop the highest summit
تُحَدِّثُناtell us عَنهُof him العُلَىnoble deeds وَبِمثلِand with the like of ماwhat
تُحَدِّثُناtell us عَنهُof him تُحَدِّثُناtell us عنكاof you
Noble deeds tell us of him, and just as
The highest speak of it, and just as they speak of it
They tell us of him, they tell us of you.
They speak of you in the same manner
تَناولتَyou undertook إِصلاحَsetting right الزّمانِthe age فَقُلْso tell لناto us
أعدلٌis it justice يسوسُgoverns المُلْكَthe realm أمor ملَكٌan angel مِنكاfrom you
You undertook to set the age right; tell us, then:
You have undertaken reforming the times, so tell us
Is it justice that governs the realm, or an angel from you?
Is a just ruler better or a king from you?
فَجَدَّدتَso you renewed ماwhat أَبلىit wore out وأَثبَتَّand you established ماwhat نَفىit removed

So you renewed what time had worn out and established what it had swept away,
You have renewed what withered and affirmed what was denied
And brought near those it had driven away, and made laugh those it had made weep.
And brought closer he who was distant, and made laugh he who cried
