أُعطيتَ حُكمكَ في الأيام فاحْتكمِ
وإنand even if تملّكتَyou took possession of رقّthe bondage of المجدglory والكرمِand generosity
وإن تملّكتَ رقّ المجد والكرمِ
You have been granted dominion over the days, so rule,
You were given your rule in the days, so rule justly,
Even if you take glory and generosity into bondage.
And if you possessed the softness of glory and generosity,

And good fortunes have allied with you: were they granted to
And good fortune allied with you, even if restricted
The season of youth, it would never pass into old age.
To the prime of youth before reaching old age,

Indeed, time runs its course in all its changes
Indeed time flows according to its disposition,
As you desire of it, beyond suspicion.
Not according to your desire, without blame,

So you never resolve upon a matter or give a sign of it
So whatever matter you intended or pointed to,
But the world rises to its feet for it.
The world stood for it immediately.

Indeed great Constantinople, its ruler
Has warded off your sword's edge with the pen.
Feared your sword’s edge with the pen,

That hurls blazing fire at him amid the flowing water.
That hurls him in the violent sea with deafness,

On your faithful keeping of covenants.
On the loyalty of a faithful one from you in covenants,

So the strength of determination of the hands of its protectors stopped,
Uproots the enemies' blessings through retribution.
Uprooting the best enemies completely.

Praising your justice in treaties with words.

On a royal throne invested with the awe of greatness.
Of the mighty awe of your kingdom upon him.

By kissing the ground of a mighty sovereign of lofty aims.
Of the land of the great king of ambitions.

So he returned in peace from a war whose cavalry
Are black, their legs sparing them the need for bridles.

Cities they besieged while still within their thickets.
Cities while still clouded in darkness before them.

Stations attained through lofty worth and aspirations.

If you slept from his light he did not sleep

If not for the generous acts of Yahya and the life in them
Wealth's spirit would not be restored to one dead from want.
The soul of wealth would not return in one dead.

A king—when he gives, rain pours from his hand;
A king when he is generous, the rain is generous from his hand
So where his raindrops fall, blessings grow.
So the place the drops fall from him grows blessings.

If he rouses the millstones of war, he attires it
In pitch-black night, with the charge of horses bearing mighty warriors.
At night, roaming with the horses in the dark,

You made us forget with hands from you we mention
Khasib of Egypt and what he bestowed upon al-Hakami.
The prosperity of Egypt and how he established the rule.

And you have folded away what was spread abroad of al-Ta'i:
And you folded what the far spread
His glorious deeds, voiced by the tongues of nations.
Of glories from it the tongues of nations narrate.

You guided one who strayed from glory and generosity
With what surpasses the power of fire and landmark.
With what exceeds the extent of fire and knowledge.

You were distinguished with generosity and valor entrusted with it
And generosity and valor are born within one's character.
Generosity and valor born in character.

Restrain his tongue in generous praise from senility.

It has the radiance of lightning, how it chained it
In the cup by a cupbearer offering the rose amid red 'anam twigs?
In the cup, a wrist pouring roses in droplets,

The neighing of your keen sword to one who is deaf?
The neighing of your white horse, responding to the deaf.
