قُلْ لِمَنْ ضاهتِ الغزالةَ نوراً

وهي من طيبها غزالةُ مِسْكِ

Say to her who rivaled the sun in radiance,

Tell her whose radiance outshone the gazelle’s

and, in her fragrance, is a musk-gazelle:

Though the gazelle’s is of pure musk

أَنتِ في العينِ وَاللِّسانِ وَفي القل

أَنتِ في العينِ وَاللِّسانِ وَفي القل

بِ فَأَينَ استَقَرَّ قَدريَ مِنكِ

بِ فَأَينَ استَقَرَّ قَدريَ مِنكِ

You are in my eye, on my tongue, and in my heart;

You are in my eyes, on my tongue, and in my heart

so where does my worth stand with you?

So where can my fate from you settle?

إِن نَقَضتِ الوفاءَ بِالغدرِ ظُلْماً

إِن نَقَضتِ الوفاءَ بِالغدرِ ظُلْماً

فَبِهذا أَشارَ طَرفُكِ عَنكِ

فَبِهذا أَشارَ طَرفُكِ عَنكِ

If you have broken faith unjustly through betrayal,

If you break loyalty with betrayal unjustly

then your glance has signaled this about you.

Then by this your gaze hinted about you

لكِ قلبي صَفَا فلا غشّ فيه

لكِ قلبي صَفَا فلا غشّ فيه

وهو للهجرِ منك في نارِ سَبْكِ

وهو للهجرِ منك في نارِ سَبْكِ

My heart has grown pure for you, with no impurity in it,

To you my heart is pure, no deceit in it

and, through your estrangement, it is in a smelting fire.

And it is for your abandonment burning in embers

أضحَكَ الشامِتِينَ صَدُّكِ عَنِّي

أضحَكَ الشامِتِينَ صَدُّكِ عَنِّي

بِدُموعي فَأَدْمُعُ القَلبِ تَبكي

بِدُموعي فَأَدْمُعُ القَلبِ تَبكي

Your turning away from me has made the gloaters laugh

at my tears; so the heart's tears weep.
