عَوِّلْrely علىon العَزْمِresolve إنّfor العزْمَresolve منقطعٌcut off
عَوِّلْ على العَزْمِ إنّ العزْمَ منقطعٌ
عنهfrom it الخمولُsloth وموصولٌand joined بهto it الأمَلُhope
عنه الخمولُ وموصولٌ به الأمَلُ
Rely on resolve, for resolve is free
of sloth, and hope is bound to it.
لوif لمnot تُسَلّbe unsheathed سيوفُswords الهندِIndia ماnot ضُرِبَتْwere struck
لو لم تُسَلّ سيوفُ الهندِ ما ضُرِبَتْ
يومَon the day القراعِcombat بهاwith them الأجيادُnecks والقُلَلُand heads
يومَ القراعِ بها الأجيادُ والقُلَلُ
Had the swords of India not been drawn, no blows would have been dealt
with them to necks and heads on the day of combat.
