ياO سالباًyou who rob قَمَرَthe moon السّماءthe sky جَمالَهُits beauty
يا سالباً قَمَرَ السّماء جَمالَهُ
ألبَستَنيyou clothed me للحزْنِfor mourning ثوبَthe robe سمائِهِits sky
ألبَستَني للحزْنِ ثوبَ سمائِهِ
O you who robbed the moon in the sky of its beauty,
O you who stripped the moon of its beauty
You clothed me for mourning in the robe of its sky.
You clothed me in the garb of sadness
أضرَمْتَyou set ablaze قلبيmy heart فارتمىso it flung out بشرارةٍwith a spark
أضرَمْتَ قلبي فارتمى بشرارةٍ
وَقَعَتْit fell بخدّكَon your cheek فانطَفَتْso it was quenched منby مائِهِits water
وَقَعَتْ بخدّكَ فانطَفَتْ من مائِهِ
You set my heart ablaze, so it flung out a spark
You set my heart aflame and it flung out sparks
That fell on your cheek and was quenched by its water.
That fell upon your cheek and were quenched by its water
