ياO عَقْرَبَscorpion الصدغِthe temple المعنبرِperfumed with ambergris طيبهاits fragrance
قلبيmy heart لَسَبْتِyou have stung فأينso where مَنْone who يرقيكِcharms you
O scorpion of the temple, whose fragrance is perfumed with ambergris,
O scorpion of the fragrant temple,
You have stung my heart; where, then, is one to charm you?
you have stung my heart, so where is one who will heal you?
وحلَلتِand you have settled فيin القَمَرthe moon المنيرِshining فكيفso how ذاthis
وحلولُهُand its dwelling أبداًalways أراهُI see it فيكِin you
And you have settled in the shining moon—how can that be,
You have settled in the bright moon, so how can this be
When I always see it dwelling in you?
when its abode is forever in you?
لاdo not تحسبينيthink that I أشْتَكيI complain لِعَواذليto my reproachers
آلامَpains قلبيmy heart منكِfrom you لاno وأبيكِby your father
Do not think I complain to my reproachers
Do not think I complain to rivals
Of the pains you cause my heart—no, by your father!
of my heart's pains from you - never, I swear by you!
