أيا ربّ عفواً عن ظلومٍ لنفسهِ

أيا ربّ عفواً عن ظلومٍ لنفسهِ

رَجاكَ وإن كان العفافُ به أولى

رَجاكَ وإن كان العفافُ به أولى

O Lord, pardon one who has greatly wronged himself,

Oh Lord, forgive the wrongs of one who wronged himself

Who hoped in You, though moral purity was more fitting for him.

Though forgiveness is best for him, he hoped for Your mercy

مقيمٌ على فِعْلِ المعاصي مُخالِفٌ

مقيمٌ على فِعْلِ المعاصي مُخالِفٌ

توالى عليه الغيّ فاستولى

توالى عليه الغيّ فاستولى

He persists in committing sins, disobedient;

Persisting in committing sins, defying Your commands

Waywardness repeatedly beset him and so took hold.

Evil befell him and took control of his soul

سألتُكَ يا مولى المَوَالي ضرَاعَةً

سألتُكَ يا مولى المَوَالي ضرَاعَةً

وقد يَضْرَعُ العبدُ الذليلُ إلى المولى

وقد يَضْرَعُ العبدُ الذليلُ إلى المولى

I asked You, O Master of masters, in humble supplication,

I beseeched You, Master of masters, pleading

And indeed the lowly servant humbly appeals to the master,

As a lowly servant pleads to his Lord

لِتُصلحَ لي قلباً وتغفرَ زلّةً

لِتُصلحَ لي قلباً وتغفرَ زلّةً

وتقبل لي توْباً وتسمعَ لي فِعْلا

وتقبل لي توْباً وتسمعَ لي فِعْلا

That You may set my heart right and forgive a lapse,

To set right my heart and forgive my missteps

And accept my repentance and hear a deed of mine.

To accept my repentance and heed my deed

ولا عَجَبٌ فيما تمنّيْتُ إنّني

ولا عَجَبٌ فيما تمنّيْتُ إنّني

طويل الأماني عند مَن يحسن الطولا

طويل الأماني عند مَن يحسن الطولا

And there is no wonder in what I have wished for, for I am

It's no wonder I made this wish, for I

Far-reaching in my hopes before Him who excels in bounty.

Have high hopes in the One so gracious and kind
