O bestower of gracious kindness when intoxicated,
O my generous lord whose work is beautiful when it blossoms,
and O initiator of gracious bounty when sober.
And O initiator of the beautiful Nile when it flows,

In every land, from his generosity, there is a garden;
In every land where its light reaches is a garden
its blossoms breathed out musk and opened.
That exudes musk whose radiance awakens and opens.

Your giving effaces drought as a downpour; so its spring
Your generosity makes the abode inclined, so its eye
writes over drought’s traces all that drought erased.
Traces its traces wherever it has been erased.

Am I singled out for deprivation among all the unadorned
Shall I be singled out for deprivation while every idle one
who donned necklaces of your favors, then sashes?
Has been adorned with your blessings and then dressed?

A summons from you reached me despite the distance of separation;
An invitation came to me from you, though far,
for it, with resolve, I crossed highlands and open plains.
For which I was determined to repay with bounty and joy.

And one who composes poetry schemes
gently leading rhymes like full-grown steeds in your praise.
To eulogize you in verse, patching together rhymes.

The duty he owed was a night he journeyed through
It was right that he stay up at night journeying
toward you; when your face appeared, it was morning for him.
To you, but when your face shone at dawn,

Your eminence, so decree musk or perfume as gifts.
